Washington County Virginia Crime for April 2013

In this edition of Washington County Virginia Crime for April 2013 we have a man arrested for shoplifting leading police to illegal drugs. A Bristol VA couple arrested on meth charges, and a substitute teacher arrested indecent behavior with a minor. Please note the following person are innocent until proven in a court of law.

Bluff City Man Busted for Drugs Shoplifting

April 11, 2013 Sheriff Fred Newman Washington County, Virginia Sheriff's Office

On Wednesday, April 10, 2013, a Bluff City, TN, man was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine. According to Washington County Sheriff Fred Newman, the man was arrested while trying to steal over $2,000 worth of merchandise from the Bristol, VA Wal-Mart. A search of his vehicle yielded a one-pot methamphetamine lab and methamphetamine precursors.

Donald Wayne Russell, age 51, of Hickory Tree Road, Bluff City, TN, was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine precursors, and shoplifting. He is being held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon on a $12,000 secured bond.

Clandestine Laboratory Officers from the Washington County VA Sheriff's Office, Abingdon Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration, and Virginia State Police took part in the arrest and the processing of the lab.


Bristol VA Couple Arrested for Meth

A Bristol, VA couple is being held without bond after Washington County, VA., Sheriff's deputies charged them with manufacturing methamphetamine. According to Sheriff Fred Newman, deputies executed a search warrant at 16217 Fleenors Memorial Rd. in Bristol, VA and have charged Summer Johnson, age 35, and Gordon Stophel, age 44, with 2 counts of manufacturing methamphetamine, conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine precursors, and possession of a firearm while in possession of methamphetamine.

A small quantity of methamphetamine and several firearms were seized from the residence. Both are being held without bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon. A court date has been set for April 15, 2013 at 1:30pm for both individuals.

Clandestine Laboratory Officers from the Washington County Virginia Sheriff's Office, Abingdon Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration, Bristol, VA Police Department, and Virginia State Police took part in executing the search warrant and processing the lab.


Substitute Teacher Busted

April 3, 2013 Sheriff Fred Newman Washington County, Virginia Sheriff's Office

An investigation conducted by the Washington County Virginia Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigative Division has resulted in charges being lodged against a substitute teacher with the Washington County Virginia School system. According to Washington County Sheriff Fred Newman, "The investigation began as a result of information that was received through the principal's office at Patrick Henry High School. The investigation further revealed a short-term sexual relationship between the teacher and a 17-year-old male student."

Lee Anne Lester, age 30, of Glade Spring, Virginia, has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, which is a Class I misdemeanor; and one felony count of taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a custodial or supervisory relationship. The incidents occurred between February 1 - 28 of 2013. Lester turned herself in to authorities on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, and has been released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.

An arraignment date has been set for April 16, 2013, in the Washington County Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court The investigation was conducted by Washington County Detective Billy Nichols.
