Richmond California - 15-Year-Old White Girl Gang Raped

Lewis Loflin

The 15-year-old victim of a gang-rape and beating at a Richmond High homecoming dance has finally been identified. Her name is DeAnna Schlaum. She is white, the gang mainly Hispanic and black. The school is 2% white, 8% Asian, 10% black, 78% Hispanic. The press again hid the race of victim because she is white and the savages were protected "minorities." The victim was beaten, raped, and had to be rushed to the hospital by helicopter. To quote one outraged reader,

How can you say this has nothing to do with race? If this girl where a different color and the perpetrators were white, there would be civil rights marches, La Raza or Al Sharpton would be on campus etc. Now, when a white girl is attacked, the school is telling us to all come together and hold hands.

What did the filthy beasts say when they were hurting her and taking pictures? If they ever said the white word or any like it, then this is a hate crime and even if they preceded with it because of her race. The Justice Department should investigate this also as a hate crime so none of the 20 should ever be allowed to go free. Then you fire every teacher and administrator at the school and close it forever.

At about 9:30 p.m. at the conclusion of the homecoming dance, a classmate invited the victim to join a group of males, ranging in ages from 15 to mid-20s, who were drinking alcohol in a dark courtyard on campus. The female victim drank a large amount of brandy, and was propositioned for sex by the alleged attackers. When the victim refused, she was placed on a nearby cement bench and continuously beaten and raped for 2 and a half hours, at times with a 'foreign object'.

A local resident heard of the attack from her boyfriend and immediately contacted the police. The victim was found unconscious under a picnic table and was air-lifted to a hospital in critical condition. She was released from the hospital on Wednesday, October 28.

Salvador Rodriguez, a bystander who witnessed the events describes the assault:

"They were kicking her in her head and they were beating her up, robbing her and ripping her clothes off; it's something you can't get out your mind. I saw people, like, dehumanizing her; I saw some pretty crazy stuff. She was pretty quiet; I thought she was like dead for a minute but then I saw her moving around. I feel like I could have done something but I don't feel like I have any responsibility for anything that happened."

Witnesses are believed to have recorded video footage of the attack using camera-equipped mobile phones, but local police have not been able to obtain the recordings. At least two dozen bystanders watched the assault without calling 911 to report it. Press reports claim no parents were present at this dance. (Contra Costa Times 11-1-2009) "...many Richmond High parents usually cannot attend evening events for their high schoolers because they have other kids at home and no one to watch them. A newsletter mailed to parents a few weeks ago outlined upcoming events, but no parents volunteered."

Putting police on the streets to crack down on Black-Hispanic crime is often attacked as racism and profiling. The parents always seem to have some excuse for not being around, so they do nothing allowing these animals to wonder the streets creating mayhem. This case got little attention in the national press and the race of the victim has been suppressed in local press reports.

Even more astounding is the multitude of witnesses stood by and did nothing. What kind of animal culture do they have in these communities?

The press doesn't single-out black-Latino culture as such, but makes excuses:

Take the poverty-driven frustration of inner-city Richmond, a youth street culture that glorifies thugs and applauds degradation of women, and the desensitization of young men through violent video games, music and language, and you have a template for trouble.

They try to keep race out of this, but the fact is race plays a big part - in particular when public officials make excuses and indoctrinate these animals into believing they are victims and what they do is often justified as a reaction to it. In this school they refused to put in enough police and security cameras they installed didn't work. It seems they didn't want to be seen as "profiling" I suppose. To quote the San Francisco Chronicle (Nov. 1, 2009),

On the night of the attack, the victim left the homecoming dance at about 9:30 p.m., before it ended, and walked to the back of campus to call her father to pick her up, detectives say. That's when someone invited her into the notorious courtyard. (She knew him?)

The group of about a dozen boys and young men was already well into 2 gallons of vodka. After they liquored up the girl with brandy, they proposed sex, according to several accounts by friends of those who were there but asked not to be named for fear of retaliation.

The girl said no. Some of the men placed her on one of the two red cement benches set alongside the main brick building of the school and said they were going to have sex anyway, according to the accounts.

"They had her down on the bench and the bitch tried to kick 'Tweak' (one of the men) in the nuts," said one young man, who said he had a first-hand account of the attack from Smith but was afraid of being named. "He went off on her, started hitting her, and then it was on. They pulled a train (a gang initiation-style rape, one after the other) on her."

What ensued was 2 1/2 hours of beatings and raping, at times with a foreign object. The scene attracted onlookers, some calling others over by cell phone, and eventually there were as many as 10 men or boys sexually assaulting the girl while another 20 looked on, laughing and snapping pictures. Teachers and students were searching last week for at least one video that many said was filmed of the attack.

The rape finally stopped, around midnight, after students at a house down the block heard of what was going on and called police. The girl was found, semiconscious, beneath a picnic table. "Her face was purple and blue and she wasn't moving when they finished and ran," said Eraclio Lopez, 23, who lives nearby and ran over when the police cars rolled up. "I guess those kids thought what they did was tight, was cool. But it was terrible."

The girl was released from a hospital, but her recovery has only begun, police Lt. Mark Gagan said. "This was a barbaric crime, and I find it hard to wrap my head around the fact that so many watched and didn't report it," Gagan said. "That poor girl will have a lot of healing to do."

On November 15, 2010, a preliminary hearing began in Contra Costa County, during which twenty witnesses appeared before the court.[31] Of the seven defendants, six faced charges that could lead to life imprisonment, while the seventh faced a maximum term of 26 years in jail.

All of the defendants pleaded not guilty to the crime. Evidence presented during the hearing connected four of the suspects to DNA found at the scene, although there was no DNA evidence connecting the remaining three defendants to the crime.

As a result of the hearing, one of the defendants was released and will not need to answer to any of the charges. Of the remaining six, two had their charges reduced, with five facing life imprisonment and one facing an eight year sentence.

15-year-old Cody Ray Smith of San Pablo, entered a plea - not guilty. Authorities say the defendants are among as many as 10 young men who raped the girl over two hours in a courtyard on the campus, while others watched and took photos with cell phones.

Richmond police arrested a sixth suspect, Jose Carlos Montano, 18, Thursday afternoon near his San Pablo home. Montano was booked on felony charges of rape, rape in concert with force, and penetration with a foreign object. His bail was set at $1.3 million. Litany of charges

Smith and two other defendants, Marcelles James Peter, 17, of Pinole and Ari Abdallah Morales, 16, of San Pablo, are juveniles being charged as adults. They all face felony counts of rape in concert, otherwise known as gang rape, and penetration with a foreign object. Morales also is charged with felony robbery for allegedly stealing the girl's jewelry.

The boys are being held at juvenile hall in Martinez on no bail. The fourth suspect, 19-year-old Manuel Ortega of Richmond, is charged with rape in concert, robbery and assault causing great bodily injury. He is being held on $1.2 million bail. All four face potential sentences of life in prison if convicted.

Elvis Torrentes, 21, was charged with sexual penetration of an intoxicated person, rape by foreign object in concert and rape in concert.

Jury selection for trials of the defendants began September 4, 2012.

Manuel Ortega, who was an adult at the time of the crime and the most heavily-charged of the six defendants, pleaded guilty to all charges against him on September 6, accepting a 32-year sentence and avoiding possible life in prison.

He was convicted of rape in concert, rape by a foreign object in concert, forced oral copulation in concert resulting in great bodily injury, and robbery.

Ortega was described by authorities as an initiator in the rape, with witnesses alleging he ripped off the girl's clothes, punched and kicked her in the head, sexually assaulted her and encouraged others to do the same. On October 19, 2012, Ortega was sentenced to 32 years in prison.[36]

On January 11, 2013, Ari Morales was sentenced to 27 years in prison. Other defendants are still awaiting trail as of January 2013.

In January 2011 the victim in the Richmond High School rape case received a monetary settlement from the school district of $4 million. The victim received an immediate payout of $2.5 million with the remaining $1.5 million to be paid over the next 40 years.
