Christian Churches of God (CCG) and the Wade Cox Exposedby Lewis Loflin The Christian Churches of God (CCG) denounces mainstream Christianity as a "cult" based on their occult theology. They claim mainstream Christianity has it all wrong and that they alone have the true faith. The fact is they are based on 19th century occultism borrowed from other churches. Quoting Phillip E, Johnson, "The theology you'll find here is an amalgamation of legalism, Arianism, Pelagianism, and almost every other deadly error—much like the original doctrine of the Herbert W. Armstrong cult." See Phil Johnson's Bookmarks—Really Bad Theology. Wade Cox founded CCG in 1995 as an offshoot of the Armstrong "cult". Rocked by scandal and decline, the Worldwide Church of God (WCG) attempted to clean up its act under Joseph Tkach Jr. by rejecting most of Armstrong's borrowed theology. That theology is a strange mixture that seems to be from the other 19th century groups such as the Seventh-Day Adventists and Jehovah's Witnesses. For example, Armstrong/CCG borrow the Sabbath observance from the Adventists, which may still follow the Trinity, but Armstrong/CCG like the Jehovah's Witnesses reject the Trinity for a form of Arianism. All three are avid end-times fanatics. What Armstrong/CCG also embrace is an occult theology called British Israelism/Anglo Israelism. To quote from Worldwide Church of God - Christian or Cult?, Views the "lost ten tribes" of Israel as the key to prophecy. Claims that "Judah" and "Israel" always refer to the two separate nations, and that inhabitants of Great Britain are of the tribe of Ephraim, while the inhabitants of America are of the tribe of Manasseh. (Armstrong never did explain how a Britisher, by immigrating to the U.S., moves from the tribe of Ephraim to the tribe of Manasseh.) Claims that white Anglo-Saxons are the chosen people of God...Late-1995, the church officially rejected the doctrine that the Anglo-Saxons descended from the tribes of Israel The idea was also invented in the 19th century and has been debunked by both mainstream Christian scholarship and modern science. But like all fundamentalist' type churches they reject all modern science and scholarship and trying to reason with them is a waste of time. There never was any "Lost 10 Tribes." They were the millions of "Israelites" that lived surrounding areas such as Egypt, Mesopotamia, Asia Minor, and Greece in the 1st century all collectively called "Jews" by the Romans. This seems to be one of many reasons why CCG split from WCG in 1995 when Tkach rejected British Israelism mythology. To repeat, the Israelites of the Bible be they from Judea, the Northern Kingdom, or the Diaspora were/are the JEWS. Unlike the more openly violent Christian Identity CCG and Armstrong don't seem to be outwardly racist or anti-Semitic. They do retain the usual fundamentalist' views of paranoia, end-times obsession, amateur prophecy, and the rejection of reason in favor of their own "self revelation." In particular they push this idea that Gnostics overthrew the "original" church, casting real Jews as imposters, and they claim to be the original church of Jesus and the "spiritual" Israel. While Wade Cox doesn't seem outright anti-Semitic, closer examination of his writings reveals his real agenda. Who is Wade Cox?Quoting www.isitso.org: Australian member for a short time of the Worldwide Church of God under Herbert W Armstrong. Left and founded, along with a small group of like-minded people, a ministry called the Christian Churches of God with headquarters in Australia. The ministry of the organization is primarily conducted through a large Internet site that features a very large collection of Cox's writings, along with some writings of other CCG authors. The CCG does not release to the public any figures regarding the number of individuals considered "members." So, although the traffic on the website does indicate a wide interest in the CCG writings, it is not clear if there are hundreds or thousands who are directly affiliated with the organization around the world. Cox has promoted the CCG as the only Sabbatarian group that holds to the "true" first century teachings—in particular a "monotheistic" view of God which insists that Jesus, although now Savior and Messiah, is not in any sense divine, but rather an inferior, created being, a brother to Satan. The CCG enforces an exclusivist policy limiting fellowship, including participation in the annual bread and wine service connected with the observance of Passover, to those who affirm agreement with the unique doctrinal perspectives of the CCG in key matters, as represented in the writings of Cox and other CCG writers. This is a policy typical of a number of WCG split-off groups, which do not accept other Sabbatarians with similar beliefs and background into full fellowship without full agreement with their own unique doctrinal distinctives. Jesus to Wade Cox is Great Angel of the OT that gave the Law to Moses at Sinai. He is an angel, a brother to Satan. If this is true, can this be called Arianism as claimed by Phillip E. Johnson? Arianism did claim Jesus divine, but an inferior, created being. In Summary: The Doctrine of Original Sin Part I The Garden of Eden (tract number 246b): In Genesis 1:1-2 we see the original creation of The Heaven and The Earth. This is the world that then was (2 Pet. 3:5-6) to which all fossils and remains belong before it became Tohu and Bohu or without form and void. It was destroyed again in the days of Noah by flood. It was desolate here from another cause (cf. n verse 1 and 2 of the Companion Bible). The heavens and the earth were created by the elohim who said, "Let us make man in our image", and both male and female were made in the image of elohim. They were commanded to go forth and replenish (or fill) the earth (Gen. 1:28; cf. Ps. 8 and Heb. 2:6-8)...geography was not the same as we have it today and the rivers flowed quite differently. The garden is clearly identified as being the area from Syria to Egypt encompassing what is now Israel....the four corners of the world had a specific cosmological meaning, which referred not to geography but to the map of the celestial kingdom...the basis of the primeval enclosure we know as the Sun Cross..." What Wade Cox claims is both Jesus Christ and Satan ran the Garden fiasco as God planned it, both seem co-equal and all part of some silly cosmic game. This person is fascinating in his ability to produce this stuff. He is just your classical Gnostic occult figure who has all the answers to things that just never existed. Another trick he employs is the use of non standard Bibles. The Kings James and New American Bible say nothing he is claiming. The problem with these churches in general is they call all heretics "cult" while secular definitions tend to attack all religious faith. So, for the record, I use the following criteria for cult and they must display all four of these traits:
So far their attackers have been right. Let's look at some more fun stuff. Wade Cox has this to say in his essay The Cult Mentality paper number p074z.html: The Oxford Universal Dictionary has 3 definitions of "cult". 1. Worship 2. A particular form of religious worship, especially in reference to its external rites and ceremonies – which covers the entire religious framework. 3. Devotion to a particular person or thing, now especially as paid by a body of professed adherents. This concept is applied where people place their religious organizational structure, or their loyalty to a person, before God and His Law, and thus breach the First Commandment. That's not three definitions of "cult" nor can I find an Oxford Universal Dictionary myself. And to quote Wade's own website regarding his cult, sect, church, or whatever it is, Does not have a ministerial hierarchy as is commonly understood among mainstream organizations. Because they are so secretive, who knows. If they have no real formal structure "as is commonly understood among mainstream organizations," then what do they have? Why does everything have to be controlled through Wade Cox and his name appear on everything? I'll stick with my definition. So do the Christian Churches of God merit being called a "cult" by so-called "fundamentalists?" We will explore more on that below. So who or what is WCG?Herbert W Armstrong: Deceased founder of the Worldwide Church of God (originally the Radio Church of God), the Plain Truth magazine and the World Tomorrow radio and TV programs. During his lifetime, Armstrong was the self-proclaimed "Apostle" of the "only true church on earth today." Herbert Armstrong was father of television and radio evangelist Garner Ted Armstrong. Garner Ted Armstrong: Radio and television evangelist, son of Herbert W Armstrong. Garner Ted Armstrong was former chief spokesman on the media outreaches of the Worldwide Church of God (WCG). He founded the Church of God, International (CGI) after being expelled from the WCG in 1978 during a leadership power struggle in that organization. He later founded the Intercontinental Church of God (ICG) and the Garner Ted Armstrong Evangelistic Association after being expelled from the CGI in 1998 as a result of a highly-publicized sex scandal. Armstrong is the self-proclaimed "Ezekiel Watchman" … main prophetic spokesman for God on earth today. Died in fall 2003. The CCG tries to use various tactics and intimidation to shut down the truth. They attempted to attack me thinking I was someone else. Won't happen with me Wade. I have nothing to do with Becker, here is his crybaby e-mail to my ISP. Wage Cox stranger than fictionFor verily he took not on him the nature (form) of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. [Hebrews 2:16-17 KJV] According to the New American Bible, Surely he did not help angels but rather the descendants of Abraham; therefore, he had to become like his brothers in every way, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest before God to expiate the sins of the people. This passage explains how Jesus took on the form of his brothers which of coarse are the Jews. He took human form for the salvation of all men. But that's not what occultist Wade Cox has to say. In his track Truth stranger than fiction, Hebrews 2:16 For surely it is not with angels that he is concerned but with the descendants of Abraham. In the typical Gnostic/occult fashion he has completely rewritten Bible verse into something it couldn't possibly be. Does Wade assume that his claims won't be checked? Is Wade Cox just a liar? Or does Wade Cox really believe in what he claims? I don't believe he is an outright liar, but displays a mental disorder that disconnects him from reason. "Self-revelation" is merely a symptom of an irrational obsession, which is revealed by the rest of his tract, The identification of the descendants of Abraham is an important factor in understanding bible prophecy. The truth is that there are a great number of nations that are descended from Abraham and heir to the promises made by God to Abraham...The Tribal origin of these nations and also the identity of the English-Speaking people... Wade Cox is following a cult-like belief often called British Israelism or in America Christian Identity. The largest promoter of this nonsense is the mostly defunct churches of the Armstrong family. The basic idea is the white Americans and British are the lost Ten Tribes of Israel. The Jews/Israel are my direct human ancestors according to Wade. Think about that. The Bible tells us Abraham came from Ur, which is in present day Iraq. In other words, white Europeans are Semites related directly to the Arabs. Ishmael was the other son of Abraham and the traditional father of the Arabs. But if this sounds absurd, it gets even better. The real Jews/Israel are imposters! They are converts from a 8th century Turkish tribe called the Khazars. Jesus was wrong after all! His "brothers" the Jews really were not the children of Abraham! Any rational person would laugh at this nonsense, but I believe he really does believe it. Self-revelation as he employs it is simply the product of a confused and dysfunctional mind. Now let's see how this relates to the real Israel/Jews. What he advocates is salvation by race, but how does he do away with Christians and the real Jews/Israel? This is explained in a tract Wade Cox calls Holocaust Revealed. Let me say as a Unitarian I find this entire tract offensive. Cox claims to be a Unitarian, he is not. No Unitarian I know of dabbles in or receive bible prophecy like he does. We do not claim to be the Jews of the Bible, nor do we follow or is there a requirement we follow Jewish ceremonial laws. The tract also promotes numerous historical lies, and finally is anti-Semitic. Unitarians are not anti-Semitic nor are we even anti-Jewish in any manner. I'll go through that tract point by point, Wade's words are in bold. Wade's Holocaust fraud refutedWhen we think of Holocaust, most think of the Nazi attempts to destroy the Jews of Europe, but not Wade Cox. He starts off with this strange non-biblical view of two creations, and weaves a web of lies claiming some massive satanic scheme going back thousands of years trying to kill his little church. Let's look at this nonsense section by section. From his tract "Holocaust Revealed, Wade Cox, "The Beginning and the Flood The Story of the Holocaust is as old as the modern human race. It commenced at the Garden of Eden with the intervention of Satan or Iblis who demurred at the creation of modern man within God's Laws and attempted to destroy mankind, and, along with it, the Plan of God. From the Garden of Eden a new and false religion was created. This false religion was to enslave the world and was to be used as the instrument of the destruction of mankind and particularly the people of God. A constant attack has been made on the Patriarchs and Prophets over the course of human history. Ultimately God destroyed the first elements of the creation with the flood because it had been so corrupted by the fallen Host under the demons." The Bible says none of what he claims. By tradition God removed Adam and Eve from the Garden and made them mortal. There was no attack and Satan never spread any false religion from the Garden. What Wade did with this was link into a series of his own self-revelation occult tracts that explained all of this. He made the tracks up and never got any of it from any mainstream Bible I can locate. Wade Cox, "Babylon The Religion of Satan was to encompass the entire world as Mysticism. Chapter 1 of that work gives an overview of how it spread from Babylon after the flood." Besides the fact he is dabbling in mysticism, the Bible says no such thing. Wade Cox, "Abraham Father of Nations After the flood God was to select a man Abraham and God was to establish His covenant with that man and his seed forever. The seed was established both through Ishmael who are the modern Arab nation and the nations of today that comprise the people of Israel who are the holders of the birthright promises and core responsibilities of the Covenant of God and also the sons of Keturah who will be identified in the linked texts as well. Satan did all he could to destroy that group of people and particularly the people of the central covenant namely the nation of Israel. This people were to be attacked and they were almost annihilated many times over the course of history. They were attacked under Moses and in the desert but God established a special relationship with that people in the Wilderness." This is where he tries to concoct this racial covenant theology, the main basis of his beliefs. For example, "Abraham Father of Nations After the flood God was to select a man Abraham and God was to establish His covenant with that man and his seed forever." But God never said "his seed" but was specific with, "But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year." (Gen. 17:21) But who is this Keturah? "Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah." (Gen. 25:1) This was after Sarah's death and had nothing to do with anything. "And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah." (Gen. 25:4) She is listed as "Abraham's concubine" in 1 Chronicles 1:23 and has nothing to do with any covenant. The "nation of Israel" at this time referred to all the Jews. All of these claims are garbage. What exactly was this "birthright promises" God gave to the children of Isaac? The land of Israel. So why don't we see the British living in Israel? Why of coarse, the Jews do! That's who the promise was made to. Wade Cox, "Israel; God established Israel as His special people and gave them his law, The Law of God. God allowed them to suffer persecution when they did not follow His laws. They suffered under the Judges. The major part of Israel who were the Northern Ten Tribes went into captivity first to the Assyrians and were placed north of the river Araxes in what was to become northern Mesopotamia and the southern Steppes near the Crimea and the Black sea. They remained there for centuries and later moved into Europe at the collapse of the Parthian Empire taking with them the original Monotheism of Israel. This was to lead to wars in Europe in an attempt to wipe out the system of God's religion established through Jesus Christ. Judah was allowed to remain for a while because of its repentance but later it too went into captivity to the Babylonians. Judah was restored under Ezra and Nehemiah so that Messiah could be born and established in Judah from Bethlehem Ephratah and called from Egypt as the Son of God. Finally, when the Church had been established through Messiah and the Spiritual Temple was commenced, Judah also was dispersed and the Physical Temple and the physical system at Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 CE. " The term "Araxes" does not appear in the Bible. 2 Kings 17:6 says, "In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes." It never mentions any of the locations he claims, many are controversial. Cox fails to mention that by the 1st century a million Israelis/Jews lived in Babylon and surrounding regions. What Cox continues to do is try to prove that the English are the Lost Ten Tribes. The fact is the Tribes were never lost, it's a myth. Most fled into Judah. Wade Cox would know this if he would end this self-revelation fraud and read the Bible as written. While much of the story of Assyria is covered in 2 Kings, Ezekiel concerned the later Babylonians. Quoting Ezekiel 9:9, "Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood..." They still existed at that time together. Jeremiah 50:33 concerning the Babylonian Captivity, "Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The children of Israel and the children of Judah were oppressed together: and all that took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go." This was later fulfilled when the Persians crushed the Babylonians and allowed the Jews/Israel to return. Many never did and stayed behind forming the vast Jewish communities in Mesopotamia. Nice try Wade. Read a normal Bible and not some occult handbook. As Wade Cox continues on his Holocaust Revealed tract, "The first attacks on God's people came almost immediately from the god of this world and based from Rome. The Early Doctrines of the Church were all Unitarian. The original doctrines of the church are well known. Justin Martyr writing from Rome in the middle of the second century in his letter to the emperor on behalf of the Church at Rome showed quite clearly that the original church was Unitarian. They believed that Christ was the Great Angel of the OT that gave the Law to Moses at Sinai (Justin Martyr First Apology, Ch. LXIII). The church believed that all of the elect were to become Elohim or theoi; or in other words they were to become God's as gods or elohim and that the one true God Eloah was to live in all men as Elohim. It was for this reason that Satan was dedicated to wiping out the church and ultimately mankind entirely. The early Church taught that the demons mislead men with false religions and that system indeed became the cause of the deception of the whole world." Here is where he begins his many attacks on formal Christianity in order to substitute his own theology. When he says Rome, means the Roman Catholic Church and the Popes. Justin Martyr was a Platonist and never believed Jesus was any "Great Angel of the OT that gave the Law to Moses at Sinai" He believed as most Platonists that Jesus was an "emanation" of God, not a sperate being as such. Second, it was God that gave Moses the Law at Sinai. "And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up..." (Exodus 19:20, etc.) In all cases LORD meant God and never mentioned anything otherwise. This angel nonsense is another Gnostic/occult belief. To continue from Wade, "At the end of the second century the false calendar was introduced by the Roman Church and split Christianity. These disputes were called the Quartodeciman Disputes and were based on the false and heathen theology of Christmas and Easter which was introduced through the worship of the Mystery cults and the worship of Attis in Rome and Adonis among the Greeks and of Isis and Osiris among the Egyptians. The system was also based on The Golden Calf which Israel had abandoned in the Wilderness after the Exodus. At first the persecutions were external to the church and Satan tried to destroy it using the pagan Roman system. Then when the church became established it was attacked from within using the same pagan doctrines that appealed so much to the masses." The main group attacked by the RCC at the end of the 2nd century was the Gnostics, which I guess includes him. In fact all heresies were attacked, not just Unitarians. The RCC is now the devil according to Wade. In other tracts he also singles out Protestants. Much of the rest of this is occult babble. Quoting Wade Cox, "The 1260 years of the Woman in the Wilderness. Once the false system was established from Rome Satan then set about using the power of the system in Europe to eliminate the church of God which was spiritual Israel. This system could be identified by its adherence to Gods laws and God's Calendar. It had spread around the world fairly quickly and so it had to be attacked and eliminated. These attacks and persecutions came to be known as the Inquisitions and their details are in the section covering the Inquisitions over the period." At this point his obsession with the Sabbath and the Jewish calendar begins to show. He tries to falsely claim that the Catholic Church, the product of Satan had singled out his church which he claims was here all along. Remember he believes he and his followers are the Jews/Israel of the Bible, and that the Inquisition was aimed at him. In fact it was aimed at the Spanish Jews and Moors, and the Gnostic Cathers. This had no relation to Sabbaths or any calendar. It gets even better. Quoring Wade Cox, "The End of the Holy Roman Empire. At the end of the 1260 years when the church had been persecuted and had fled to the wilderness and been hidden by the earth and saved from this false religious system the system itself as God had prophesied was brought to an end by the beast itself. The Holy Roman Empire was brought to and end but the final Holocaust was not yet upon the church. Before we examine the final Holocaust we should document also the persecution of the Jewish people who are part of Israel and also those peoples that are not Jews by lineage but were converted to Judaism such as the Ashkenazi people of the Khazars in 740 CE. These people also have suffered massive persecution. " Here Wade gets around to what all anti-Semitic bigots under Christian identity try to do, steal the birthright of the Jews. He separates the European (Ashkenazi) Jews from Israel just as he separated them from the Holocaust in this tract. That claim has been proven false by a number of sources, yet like the home-made bibles he uses for references, the claim is just plain false. Enough of this nonsense, let's jump to the last part of his tract. Here is where he really gets his ideas. Quoting Wade Cox, "Will the next Pope be Jewish? Click here to find the answer. For more information see the research paper from Christian Churches of God, The Last Pope #288. " Now he claims the last Pope will be a Jew, implying of coarse that since the Catholic Church is controlled by Satan, he implies Jews (the real ones) are in with old Satan. I did go look at this tract 288, here is the fine research Wade Cox wants the world to read: The Last Pope: Examining Nostradamus and Malachy (No. 288) Nostradamus has made some startling prophecies that have come true. He has also made some that have been misunderstood and dismissed incorrectly. The purpose here is to examine and perhaps explain two prophecies he made which have a religious significance and one of which has come true and one of which is due to come into play in the near future. Malachy was a Catholic Archbishop of the twelfth century who wrote an uncanny list of every Pope until the end. We will examine them both here. According to Malachy there are only two popes left to go. Nostradamus??? Ok, enough of this nutcase. In conclusion, Christian Churches of God and Wade Cox are just like Nostradamus. If you really believe in occult quakery, then join this church and may God help you. Or you can use your God-given reason and stay away from these nuts.
